THE ARTIST LIFE – PROJECTS

SHOW PROPOSALS: An idea comes, research the meaning, find artists and find a location. Artists need space to exhibit and spaces need fresh, new shows. This includes timing and matching the show to the space. There’s also the relationship aspect between the art director and the artist. I also need to envision how the artists work will come together in the space. Am I after contrast or harmony of materials, content and color? Does the artwork express the theme? The concept and the artwork need to be presented as strongly and clearly as possible.

WORKSHOP: Another project is designing a visual poetry workshop with a friend. It’s fun to think of ideas to combine art and poetry using various materials. This workshop will be intimately connected to its environment allowing exploration of the space in new ways. Combining the visual with words can be a powerful approach.

MAGAZINE ARTICLE: There’s a matching of style and the audience with the artist’s work in a magazine article. Magazines have submission guidelines and sometimes have themes that may fit your art. I was told that it’s good to start being published in magazines before publishing a book. Some magazines are how-to projects and others want articles. You need good pictures as the images will draw the reader to your article.

These are just some of the projects I’m working on right now. Studio time still needs to be there too!
