Stars Rising and a Tigress Speaking

Reading "Speaking Through Sediment"

Reading “Speaking Through Sediment”   A rich week of adventures in the art life began with Michael Cooper and I reading poems from “Speaking Through Sediment” at the dp Project in Pomona as a part of the 2nd Saturday Art Walk. Children were coloring, people stopped by, and conversations sifted outside. The next day we read at Redlands United Church of Christ in a celebration of their many authors. A fun time

Time to go to Hollywood to see the new “Phantom of the Opera.” People wore red and black to represent the rose. The crowd lined up early. I had never been inside the Pantages Theater. That’s an adventure in itself with many layers of Art Deco design everywhere.

The play was outstanding. Such voices and wonderful stage sets. Magical. The audience screamed when the chandelier fell even though we all knew it was going to happen.

On to hanging an installation of quilted stars by wonderful students in the Women’s Resource Center at La Sierra University in Riverside. The student’s community poem will be read at the Riverside Art Museum on July 2 as a part of Riverside Art Make.

Finally a day in the sun with a wonderful poet Kathabela Wilson. I knew I couldn’t outdo her hat, but mine was fun to wear. We enjoyed art, music, and good food in Claremont, CA.
