“Speaking Through Sediment” Book Launch

While it is a magical moment to open the box and see your first published book, there’s nothing like sharing poems with friends. A big thank you to PoetrIE for hosting the book launch for myself and Michael Cooper in our first collaborative books of poems. And to ELJ Publications for publishing new authors and being open to the idea of collaboration. And to the many friends who came to support us. We had guest readers too.

Michael and I met together to select the poems. We decided to go through a section of the book so the audience could see how the book wove our poems together. We ended by reading the words together from Michael’s poem, “When we leap together!”

Apparently I had a moment of attitude as captured in this picture (below). What I really felt was the joy of sharing poems about singing bowls, reweaving the world, and a call and response with sticks. Michael whispered Haiku and yelled about a rushing, carla.

We had a great Q&A time. We were asked about how our different personalities affected each others poems. Michael said I was so positive. I felt that Michael gave me a boldness to my writing and reading the poems out loud. Michael encouraged the audience to collaborate. Chad Sweeney organized a group for a spontaneous performance. What a gift! The perfect ending to a special day.
