Plastic & Performance Art

The evening began enjoying Susan Joseph's newest art work.

The performance begins.

The performance begins.

My husband and I went to see Susan Joseph’s new paintings and a performance by Takeshi Kanemura. The performance art would be left as an installation. We took our places along a wall. Susan provided sound effects and Takeshi began to tape the floor. Then he taped people’s feet like creating a map.

He picked up a large sheet of plastic and wrapped my husband and I and taped us to the wall. It was very hot in our plastic bubble. But I liked being a part of the performance. Then Takeshi painted along the sides of our bodies.

I decided to take pictures as I had front row seats. He grabbed another large sheet of plastic and others waved it like a flag. He taped it to a ladder and people sprayed paint on the plastic. It was time to create art on the back of his shirt.

After he unwrapped Dan and I, he continued the original orange tape and made an arch around me. I told him this was my space. I could breathe again. I even added spray paint to the final installation.

I liked seeing art involve a community in its creation. It was fun to watch the dance as Takeshi moved in the space.
