I have been participating in various collaborations recently. I have created several chapbooks with Michael Thomas Cooper. Our poetry styles are very different. Mine is more lyrical and Michael is more experimental. The commonalities make it work. We both like myth and are storytellers. I think the contrast in styles adds spice. When I select which poems of ours to use, I always find a word or concept to link the poems together. It has been fun working with such a talented poet and friend.

The photograph above (by Renata Mangutova Photography) depicts two dancers dancing while I read my poem, “Singing Bowls.” There was also an art quilt hanging on the wall of the same theme. I was thrilled how Cydney Watson and Crystal Sepulveda expressed the journey of my character, the Tigress, in movement. Lindsey Lester also danced using one of my poetry scarves. The poems and art came alive in new ways. These pieces were performed in community at a coffee house. Happy to make new friends in the expansion of my creative expression.

I have an upcoming two-person art show with Christine White called, “Eco-Art-Fragments.” She asked if we could create one collaborative art work. It was interesting to bring our two media – acrylic paint and fabric – to one complete art work. Our styles and ways of working are not the same. We negotiated through the process and were happy with the results. This picture is the early part of the process.
