The Clouds Touched the Ground
The reception for my solo show, “The Clouds Touched the Ground,” at Augie’s Coffee House, Redlands, CA was a rousing success. This was the first time I combined a showing of my artwork, a poetry reading and live music at my art opening. It was extra work to coordinate this, but truly worth it.
This art show happened in two rooms. The exhibit in the front room will stay until Jan. 2, 2010. The back room exhibit was hung for the reception only. The back room was transformed into a welcoming space with low lighting, artwork and rows of chairs. The poetry reading and live world music portion of the reception lasted for two hours. The room was full and many people stayed the entire time!
The poetry readers were mainly MFA students from Cal State University San Bernardino. Ruth Nolan, Julie Paegle (coordinated the students) and myself also read. I was touched by the students sometimes using the title of the show as a reference point for their poems and honoring my artwork.
Roberto Catalano played several world music instruments from his collection. When I read my poetry, Roberto played music in response to my words.
Guests attended this southern California event from as far away as Washington and Florida! I appreciated all who attended to make this a memorable evening.
Sounds like loads of fun.
I love the title of this show…lovely and thought provoking.
Yes, the title is something to dream about.
I found out this is a real place in Costa Rica!
